Grenson’s MIE sneaker made from Cloudwool

Two years ago, we were approached by the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins, to work on a project with an innovative company called Doppelhaus, who develop non woven textiles from British wool to create traceable low impact “circular” material for use in fashion and homewares.

We have worked closely with Doppelhaus to develop the wool material to a point where it can be used in shoemaking. The fabric itself is a non-woven felt that goes straight from fiber to fabric. This means that there is no need for a lot of the processes and energy required for spinning and weaving, making Cloudwool much more sustainable and efficient but the material still remains pure, natural and fully compostable at the end of life.

However, ultimately the best way to test it is in the marketplace, so we are launching our first shoe made of the wool to see how it performs in the great wide world. It looks quirky but very natural and beautiful and we really believe that by working with innovative companies in this way we will further our own knowledge and that of our followers.
