Our lasts
What is a last?
The last is a 3D form that the shoe upper is pulled over to create the shape of the shoe. The exact shape of each last is vitally important both for aesthetic reasons and also fit, so it has to be perfect. Lasts vary in width, length and general shape so some lasts will be perfect for you and others might not be. For this reason we have created this page so that you can find your favourite last and see all of the shoes made on it. For many people, however, all of the lasts will work, so don’t feel restricted, give a shoe a try before you decide.

Our 11F men's last makes for a narrow fitting shoe with a classic city toe shape. If you feel that your feet are a little wide, we would suggest initially trying a half size up in styles made on this last.

Our 20E last is a last designed specifically for loafers. This last is a little roomy so we would advise to drop down a full size for a snug fit. We advise that this is the correct way to buy loafers as they will stretch slightly after wear.

Our 80F last will fit in the same way as our 20E last, which is a loafer last that fits true to size. It has a rounded toe very similar to the 201G shape but it is not as wide. We advise that loafers should be snug when purchased as they will stretch slightly with wear.

Our 93E last has a slightly pointier toe than our 20E and 80F lasts as it is designed as a dress shoe. We would advise that it will fit true to size and should be snug when first purchased. This is the correct way to buy loafers as they will stretch slightly with wear.

Our 201G last has a rounded toe and is a wider fit in a G width. We would normally advise a half size down on this last unless you have a particularly wide foot.

Our 204F last is designed to look long on the foot. Therefore, it may appear too big because of the extra space at the end of the foot, but this is meant to be there. As long as the shoe fits snugly around your heel and instep it is not too big. We would advise that this last is better for a narrow foot so if you feel that your feet are a little wider, then we would suggest initially trying a half size up on this last.

Our 207F last makes for a narrow fitting shoe with a classic city toe shape. If you feel that your feet are a little wide, we would suggest initially trying a half size up in styles made on this last.

Our 213G last has plenty of room in the toe area. It has a wider, exaggerated, rounder shape than our 201G last. This style is less classic and more ‘trendy’. We advise this last fits size for size. However if you have a particualr slim foot you may benefit from a half size down.

Our 300F last is a recreation of a vintage last from 1912 – feet were narrower then so we have adjusted the fitting to a standard F but retained the look of the original last. It is slim in the waist but the toe is actually quite generous and boxy. The style is a Derby allowing adjustment over the instep. If you have tried, and can comfortably wear, our 201G or 207F lasts then you will be okay with the width and fit of our 300F last.

Our 301E last. This is based on an orthopaedic shape popular in the 40’s to fit all feet. It’s an ergonomic shape with a generous fit around the front of the foot. The fitting is an E but it’s fairly generous and not as narrow as it would have been in the 1940’s. If you have previously worn our 207F last comfortably, then this last will be a good fit for you.

Our 303EX last has a classic, elegant toe shape. It fits true to size and our EX fit is between an E and F fit. This last is shorter and flatter than the 207F last but is a very classic shape. It’s slightly narrower than our 201G last so you shouldn't need to drop a half size for a comfortable fit.

Our men's sandals are manufactured on our 400F last. This last will fit true to size so we would suggest ordering in your usual size.

Our 500D last is used specifically for our ladies' sandals. If you are a half size, we would suggest trying a half size down. Otherwise, you will be fine to order true to size.

Our 632D last is designed to look long on the foot. Therefore, it may appear too big because of the extra space at the end of the foot but this is meant to be there. Our 635D last is a softly pointed loafer last. It fits true to size but will be on the snug side. Loafers should be tight on the foot when you first buy them as they give in wear. If you buy too loose at the start they will bag after a while.

Our 648D last has a wide rounded toe shape with a characteristic toe bump lending a more aggressive silhouette than our classic 631 last. The appearance is of a wider but shorter last but we advise that you order your normal size, or potentially a half size up on this last if you have a wider foot.
