Grenson x Martin Parr Photography Exhibition

2016 was the 150th anniversary of the birth of Grenson, so we decided that we wanted to document the factory and the people who work within it.

The choice of photographer was simple. I have been a fan of Martins for many years and I knew he would capture the true atmosphere of the factory and the character of our craftsmen.

It took us quite a while to persuade him, but the clincher was that there wasn’t a brief, just a desire to see Grenson people through his eyes.

He came to the factory for a day and we left him alone to wander. The craftsmen and craftswomen, just went about their daily work as he moved around in the shadows. Behind him at all times was a cameraman shooting the shoot.

Once he was finished he edited his shots down to 80 or more, and then he and I edited them down to a final 10.

Here’s to the next 150 years…
